"The little blue book (by Currie) is great. I've bought
several copies for friends/their kids because it has such wonderful
ideas for making decorations, e.g.the tootsie roll mailboxes,
sleds made from sugar wafer cookies and candy canes, etc." |

My son (ten year old) and I attended a class for creating
gingerbread houses put on by the author of this book here in
Concord, NH. This is by far the best beginner book for both parents
and kids. She takes the team approach to creating gingerbread
houses where the kids really get involved. It doesn't have intimidating
pictures of the finished project or how a house should look.
It promotes creativity. This book was also kid tested before
it was printed. It's well worth the $14.95. I hope this helps. |

A reader from Wisconsin |
I am a 38-year-old wife and mother of two from Wisconsin.
I made my first gingerbread house last Saturday (actually a
gingerbread birdhouse). My sister found the book "Gingerbread
Houses : Baking and Building Memories" by Nonnie Cargas...to
help us start the tradition of making gingerbread houses with
our children. We were both so impressed with the book, I ordered
it through my book store. Together with my daughter, mother,
sister, and 3 nieces, we constructed 3 cottages and 2 birdhouses.
We used Nonnie's recipes for gingerbread and frosting and patterns
from the book. They turned out beautiful. Nonnie's book has
wonderful how-to pictures, lots of pictures of gingerbread houses,
many tips and ideas for decorating, etc.
I am also the cake decorating project leader for my children's
4-H Club. The book also give instructions on how to conduct
a 2 session gingerbread house-making class that I am going use
for the children who are in the cake decorating project. |
